Job Duties
Collects data from patient, family or significant others and records on Initial Data Base form.
Contributes to the formulation and updating of plan of care and implements plan of care under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
Gives direct nursing care to assigned patients (e.g., medications, treatments, dressing changes, TPR) according to established standards and in keeping with age appropriate measures.
Recognizes changes in patient condition and responds appropriately, notifying charge nurse as needed.
Documents pertinent information regarding patient's responses and nursing interventions in patient's medical record.
Administers medication according to hospital policies.
PATIENT CARE RELATED DUTIES
Applies principles of infection control and safety in the performance of patient care.
Communicates effectively with charge nurse and other member of the Health Care Team regarding patient's needs and/or changes in condition.
Responds appropriately in crisis situation.
Reports significant unit problems to the R.N.
Patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
Provides individual and group activities to foster a return to optimal functioning.
Understands and adheres to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.
Familiar with the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Promotes adherence to the Patient's Bill of Rights.
Customer Service: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience and helpfulness. All responses should be timely, professional, caring, and respectful in accordance with Customer Service Performance expectations.
Other Job Duties
Orients patient and family to new environment; develops rapport with patients family and/or significant others.
Orients LPNs, Nurses Aides and orderlies as required.
Effectively utilizes the hospital computer system as it pertains to job responsibilities and in accordance with hospital policy.
Participates on unit committees and in CQI activities as assigned.
Participates in patient care conferences and in staff development activities as required.
Assists other personnel as needed.
Performs Other Related Duties As Required.
BASIC COMPETENCIES
Education
Graduation from an accredited school of Practical Nursing or equivalent education as described by the State Education Law.
Current NJ license as an LPN.
Successful completion of Progressive Care Orientation Program required.
Experience
Previous experience in child/adolescent nursing or related services preferred
Knowledge and understanding of the mental disorders occurring in children and adolescents.
Experience in facilitating and understanding the dynamics in a group situation preferred.
Skills
BLS required
Clinical nursing skills appropriate for an LPN.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills.
Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.
JOB SETTING/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
All patient care areas; contact with patients, visitors, staff.
Frequent prolonged standing/walking.
Lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients.
Protective clothing worn: face shield, gloves, impermeable gown, particulate respirator
